Located in the rolling hills of northern Somerset County, Bernardsville Borough is a quaint, close knit, all-American town of approximately 7,700 residents, which has successfully managed to maintain its small town charm in the face of modern-day development pressures. At 12.9 square miles, the town is medium sized in terms of land, but has a larger population than many of its surrounding towns (with the exception of Bernards Township aka Basking Ridge), which includes, Far Hills, Peapack-Gladstone, Harding Township, and Mendham. The Borough is also part of the Somerset Hills School District which includes students from Far Hills, Peapack-Gladstone and Bedminster and is considered to be one of the best districts in the state.
Bernardsville is an ideal commuter town for both firms based out of New York as well as local companies with headquarters based in town or nearby such as Verizon, UPS, Avaya, Novartis, Merck, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and other marquee Fortune 500 corporations, just to name a few. Bernardsville also has excellent public transportation boasting its own NJ Transit train station with midtown-direct service to New York Penn Station within 74 minutes. There is also a bus shuttle service to Port Authority serviced by the Lakeland Bus Company with a stop adjacent to the train station. There is also a variety of walking and biking trails around town. Other scenic outdoor venues in town or nearby include Lord Stirling Park, The Rapture Trust, Jockey Hollow Park, and The Audubon. Golfers can choose from some of New Jerseys finest courses including Roxiticus Golf Club, Somerset Hills, and Basking Ridge country clubs. There are also many state and local outdoor parks which offer summer camps and year round sports programs for children of all ages.
Cultural and community events such as the annual Fishing Derby, Sounds Around Town, Bernardsville Unity Day, Blast Off to Summer are just several examples of what makes this town a great place to live. The recently renovated high school, Bernards High School, which serves the borough and neighboring towns of Peapack-Gladstone, Bedminster and Far Hills offers the safety and small class sizes similar to many of the private prep schools in the surrounding area. Bernards High School has been regularly recognized by both national and state publications. Most recently, BHS was ranked within the top 2% of high schools nationwide in Newsweek. Additionally, New Jersey Monthly consistently places BHS on its prestigious top 75 list. Although BHS is considered a small high school, the school environment, student performance and student outcomes are exceptional.

Students in grades K–12 attend the schools of the Somerset Hills Regional School District, a regional school district serving students from Bernardsville, Far Hills, and Peapack-Gladstone, along with those from Bedminster Township whose district’s high school students are sent as part of a sending/receiving relationship. The three schools in the district are Bedwell Elementary School (K-4, 692 students), Bernardsville Middle School (5-8, 554 students) and Bernards High School (9-12, 759 students), all of which are located in Bernardsville. Many of the high school students travel to school using the train that links the towns together.
